Design Idea
Three pavilions representing past, present and future combine into a memorial place, a place for learning and a place for exhibition.
The first pavilion acts as an introverted memorial place for retraction, to think of all people who died in the past conflicts. Leaving room to think of the past gives place for a better present and a bright future. The outer ring of the building reduces sound emission to quieten the second inner ring from the everyday noise and shut out the outside so it is possible to fully concentrate on one’s own thoughts. The inward side of the walls are plastered and decorated with a pattern of human handprints. The handprints are a memorial to all unknown victims of war and a reminder that all people are the same.
The second pavilion is a place for learning in the here and now. Looking to the past, revealing mistakes and problems of the past. The place for learning is about learning from these mistakes to prevent them from happening again. Giving space for humans to get together and talk about the past happenings to cope and overcome them is also a way to strengthen the community of the village and all the different people in it. The outer ring of the pavilion may be used as a storage place for tables, chairs and other stuff. The inner room can be used as a classroom for presentations, workshops or similar. A pedestal in the middle of the chamber serves as a stage for the speakers and teachers.
The third pavilion gives space for exhibitions, ideas and vision and so allows an outlook to the future. The room can be used for exhibitions of local handicrafts or art. It can also serve as a location for events like celebrations, assemblies or a future workshop. The things learnt in the present from the past shall be used to form a better future for everyone.
The three parts of the peace pavilion represent the three stages of our existence and leaves room for the people to live and understand all three facets.
With a plane construction the three pavilions create a small campus for people looking for a place to grieve, trying to understand and learn; a place for people to share their past, present and future visions with each other.
With thoughts of the past, standing in the present and constantly moving into the future. Together people can overcome anything.
